CCP Mock Exams: How Many You Need, and How to Turn Results Into a Pass

By 3FOLD Training · AACE-Approved Education Provider · Updated 9 July 2026 · 6 min read

Quick answer: Three full-length, timed simulations is the evidence-based sweet spot for the CCP®: one to expose weaknesses, one to verify your fixes, one as a dress rehearsal. Each should mirror the real format — 120 questions, 5 hours, memo included, formula sheet at hand — and each review should produce a domain-level score sheet, because the exam is scored as a 70% average across 7 domains.

Why full-length beats question banks

Chapter quizzes test knowledge; the CCP tests knowledge delivered over five continuous hours. Decision fatigue at question 95, time discipline with the memo still unwritten, calculator work on scratch paper under the clock — none of that appears in a 20-question bank session. Candidates who fail with strong knowledge almost always describe the same experience: "I ran out of time / faded in the last ninety minutes." Stamina is trainable, and full-length simulation is how. Know exactly what you're training for — see the CCP syllabus breakdown by domain.

The three-simulation protocol

SimulationWhenGoal
#1 — Diagnostic~3 weeks before examExpose domain weaknesses and timing leaks; expect a humbling score
#2 — Verification~2 weeks beforeConfirm targeted revision moved the weak domains; overall average trending ≥ 70%
#3 — Dress rehearsal~1 week beforeReal start time, single sitting, memo included; walk in already knowing you can pass

The review method that does the actual teaching

  1. Score by domain, not just overall. A 72% overall hiding a 45% in performance measurement is a fail risk, not a pass signal — the real exam reports domains, so should your practice (see our CCP exam passing score guide for how averaging works).
  2. Classify every wrong answer: knowledge gap, misread question, calculation slip, or time pressure. Each class has a different fix.
  3. Re-study before re-testing. Taking simulation 2 the day after simulation 1 wastes it — the gap between them is where revision happens.
  4. Log your timing splits — MCQ pace and memo minutes — and correct them deliberately in the next run.

Simulate the conditions, not just the questions

  • Timed, single sitting, 5 hours — no pausing.
  • Memo written in full, typed, inside the sitting (AACE recommends reserving 40–60 minutes).
  • Your own stand-alone battery calculator and scratch paper — the same kit the real exam permits.
  • Formula sheet beside you while practising, so exam-day reference feels familiar.

This is exactly why CCP Complete Self-Paced Preparation ships with three distinct 120-question, 5-hour simulations with per-question results breakdowns, the downloadable formula sheet, and memo scenarios — the full protocol above, ready to run.

Frequently asked questions

What score on mock exams predicts a real pass?+
Consistently 70–75%+ overall across your last two full-length simulations, with no domain in free-fall, is the practical green light. A single lucky 71% is not.
Are more than three mock exams better?+
Diminishing returns set in quickly if you review properly. Three well-reviewed simulations beat six rushed ones — the learning is in the review, not the repetition.
Should mock exams include the memo?+
Yes, at least twice. Skipping it in practice is how Domain 7 becomes the surprise that sinks an otherwise-passing result.
How realistic are third-party CCP questions?+
Quality varies widely. Look for simulations built to the 2026 blueprint's domain distribution (43/28/13/20/6/9 + memo) by an AACE-Approved Education Provider.
